Scientific Value | Tall Jalul spans continuous occupation from the Early Bronze Age Period through the Islamic Periods. It is the largest site in Central Jordan and provides unique remains. The ancient site of the tall covers an area of 7 hectares with the later Islamic Village covering 28 hectares. The enormous water reservor on the tall is now partially excavated and can be said to be the largest in the country of Jordan. It is still intact and holds water. This reservor dates back to the Iron Age and was used during the succeeding periods. |
Historical Value | The continuous occupation of the site of Tall Jalul provides a historical perspective unique to excavations in Jordan. Occuppied as early as the Early Bronze Age with substantial remains dating to the Iron Age and Persian Period, the site provides new information regarding the extensive presence and prosperity of the community especially during the Persian Period. This alone gives the site significant historical value. However, the Water Reservor is of particular historical value as it is the only reservor of this enormity in the country of Jordan. As revealed through this season's excavations thus far, the plaster and lower encasing wall of the reservor are preserved. The upper portion of the reservor's wall has collapsed into the reservor. |
Aesthetic Value | The Water System is a monumental and awe-sinspiring sight. It's value to both the local community and to tourism has high potential. |
Social Value | The local community has a treasure in their lands and it needs to be respected, protected and preserved by the entire community. Without their cooperation, the site will be destroyed. |
